I’m a great fan of this little gadget. You can get it from Amazon and a few other places. It is simple, has no batteries and you can even plug it into the output of a mixing desk or anything else that has a jack socket, then record away! It adds a microphone, an audio input, and an extra button to the iPod Nano, enabling it to record voice notes (or memos); Very neat indeed. There are equivalents for the other iPod models, as I have something similar for the family iPod classic.
When you record a voice memo, when you next sync the iPod with iTunes, it copies all of the voice memos across. You can then drag them from iTunes and do, well, whatever you want with them. You could email them to a transcription service, turn them into a podcast.
I also use the MicroMemo as part of my GTD routine for capturing random thoughts and to do items.
